Using AI as Your Writing Assistant

In my early days of writing emails or posts internally or on LinkedIn, I used to rely heavily on people around me.

Whenever I wrote something important, I would ask my friends or colleagues to proofread it. Sometimes it was just to fix grammar. Other times it was to make sure the message was clear.

Later, I discovered tools like Grammarly, and that made things easier. It helped catch grammar mistakes and improve sentence structure.

But even then, when sending critical emails, especially to clients or prospects, I would still discuss the message with a few colleagues before hitting send. The goal was simple: make sure the message is clear and that it drives the outcome we expect.

Today, things have changed.

With AI, I now use ChatGPT for most of my content rewriting, proofreading, and grammar checks.

If a prospect hasn’t responded after a couple of emails, I sometimes ask ChatGPT to rewrite the message to improve the chances of getting a response.

When I write a newsletter or a LinkedIn post, I also run it through ChatGPT to make sure the message is clear, well structured, and easy for the audience to understand.

And honestly, I think this is perfectly fine.

Using AI for rewriting, proofreading, or structuring your ideas doesn’t reduce your originality. Your ideas are still yours. AI just helps present them better.

There is no need to be shy about saying you use ChatGPT or any other AI tools.

Similarly, using AI for writing code is quickly becoming a must-have skill for developers. Tools like GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT can help generate code snippets, debug issues, and explain complex logic within seconds. This saves a significant amount of development time and allows engineers to focus more on solving business problems rather than spending time on repetitive coding tasks. When used properly, AI becomes like a pair programmer who is always available to assist.

In today’s world, not using AI tools is almost like refusing to use spell check (Hope we remember we used this in MS Office) twenty years ago.

The real value still comes from your experiences, your thinking, and your perspective. AI simply helps you communicate and build things faster and more effectively.

AI will not replace your voice or creativity. But it can definitely help your ideas move faster.
